Hi friends and family! I hope you had a wonderful month of July!
I am so deeply thankful for your generous support to me that allows me to be back on campus this fall for year four of ministry because you have been willing to join me in reaching the next generation of college students!
Licensing Ceremony!
All throughout the summer, every Thursday night we meet with all of our DFW college campuses within our ministry for fellowship nights called Summer Focus, but on the last week of the summer we always have a ceremony to have the staff members who are making new commitments within the ministry to publicly state promises to our students on how we strive to serve them with the heart of Christ at the center of the ways we pastor our students in all areas of their lives. This year, I committed to three additional years working for the FOCUS ministry on the Denton college campuses. I'll be meeting with students from not just UNT, and TWU, but also NCTC this year which is the community college in Denton where there is a lot less access to different areas to have community in, so I'm very excited to be on that campus more getting to show students that community college doesn't have to be just a passing stop in college, but still as intentional and life giving as a University experience if they are surrounded by a community of disciples! This is some of our returning campus pastors for the next school year, and for some they've made commitments all the way up until the year of 2031!
This is our group of Apprentices for the next 10 months of the year! They will spend 20 hours a week taking various biblical classes, and doing various homework assignments to stretch and deepen their faith and understanding of ministry! The other parts of the week will get to be spent being a blessing to the campuses that each of them have been placed at across the various DFW colleges! Four of them will be placed in denton with our team! They are: Hayden (back left in blue), Azael (front left in grey), Briana (right next to Azael), and Savannah (right next to Briana). I'm so excited to have them with us for this next year! All of them went to UNT and I got to know them pretty well, but Briana will be coming from the UTD campus ministry, and its always fun getting a new person because they have new fresh new ideas and perspectives to share with us! Also, a fun fact about her and me is that I was a summer intern for the teen ministry that is connected with FOCUS, and met Briana when she was a sophomore in High School several years ago, so its a sweet full circle to now be working with her!
Staff planning day!
We had another all staff planning day where we worked on various areas of outreach events that we are putting on for the first few weeks that students are back on campus! Please be praying for the students that we will meet on campus, for open hearts towards joining a ministry and having community in their life, for the spirit to lead us to those who come from hard backgrounds and experiences where they haven't really found a sense of belonging, and pray for those who are lonely and seeking friendships! This photo is only half of our team, but it does show the four new additions we will have to our team this year who are our apprentices, who are similar to a ministry intern.
DNC summer small group!
For small groups, our church has ones for during the school year, but over the summer since a lot of our church has lots of college students, they do summer classes on various different topics to choose from, and you have the opportunity to meet with a different group for the summer months. I've loved this years group and really loved this years reading. We read through the book "With" and it was a helpful read that had me reflect on my own ways that I see God, and helping to dismantle false ideas on having to do tasks in order to earn God's favor, or to be seen highly by God. The good news is that God is a good father who loves his children and just desires us to bear his image, but we must spend time with him intimately to find that to be the most foundational thing about our faith.
